China Pastel Network

Established in 2013, China Pastel Network ( CPN ) is the first China based organization dedicated to promoting pastel art. It is located in Suzhou, consisting of a gallery and an art education center. The past two bi-annual international pastel exhibitions are recognized as a premier event for pastel artists in China and abroad. We invite you to submit your entries in our 3rd China (Suzhou) Biennial International Pastel Exhibition.

Return of Work


China Pastel Network reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the People's Republic of China or the Suzhou local government. No substitutions; the work represented on the entry form and JPEG will be included in the show catalog and must be the work submitted to the exhibition. Artists who do not send work after it is included in the catalog will not be eligible to enter the future China Pastel Network exhibitions.

Accepted and exhibited artwork will be retained in China under the care of China Pastel Network for a period of 12 months, from the date of the exhibition to October 19, 2019.

Work Eligible

  • Works must be in dry pastel with final surface a minimum of 80% dry pastel.
  • No oil pastels.
  • Mixed media must be predominantly (80%) dry pastel.
  • Size of works preferably not exceed 36" or 92cm on all sides.
  • All accepted entries must be mailed FLAT without frame and glass to Ming Gallery of Art, Suzhou, China.
  • Works must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials.
  • All artworks must be originally drawn and not created on top of a base photo or print.
  • All works must have been created within the last two years.
  • Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance.
  • Works done under supervision (such as in a workshop or class) are not eligible.
  • Works that appear to be duplicate, or closely derivative of a painting previously accepted into any of the China Pastel Network Exhibitions, done by the same artist, will not be eligible.
  • Works may not have been accepted in any previous China Pastel Network Exhibitions.
Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligible work may result in the work not being juried.

Artwork submitted and accepted into this show that is found to have been shown in a previous China Pastel Network exhibition will be rejected.

Image Specifications

All images must be high quality jpeg (jpg) image files. Set your camera to the highest possible quality image, use good lighting on your painting without any glass in front of it, and use a tripod for your camera. Once the photo is taken, you must crop out all parts of the photo that are not the actual painting; do not show mat, frame, etc, only the painting itself. Please save at 300 dpi resolution, with a size of 1280 pixels on the longer side of the image (i.e. for a horizontal format, the width should be 1280 pixels; for vertical format, the height will be 1280 pixels; for a square format both dimensions are 1280 pixels.). The upload system will not accept very large files, so you must reduce the native image size to these specifications.

Filename Instructions

Name your image files

Use the following protocol for giving your image file a name for submission: Start with your last name, followed by an underscore, followed by your first initial, followed by another underscore, then the title of the image without spaces, then make sure it has the extension ".jpg".

For example: Carson_R_SilentSpring.jpg.

Shorten long titles in the filename, please, and remove all spaces and quotation marks.

However, On the entry form in the box for Title do enter the actual title of the piece as you would want it to appear in the show catalogue.

Fee Structure

Limit: 3 images entered per artist

Entry Fee: $35 (US Dollars) for up to 3 digital images. Entry fees are not refundable.
Entry fee is paid by credit card or PayPal account at the conclusion of the online entry process.

Entries from outside U.S. must be paid with credit card or PayPal account in U.S. currency.

Incomplete entries will be disqualified.

Notification of selection results will be and sent by email on July 28, 2018.

Accepted Work: Notification, Shipping

All artists entering will receive a notification of the jury's selections by email by July 28, 2018. Shipping instructions will accompany the notice for accepted work. Painting submitted must be identical to accepted JPEG. No substitutions permitted.

SHIPPED WORK: Shipped work must arrive by August 25, 2018
All paintings to be shipped FLAT, unframed (no frame, no glass)
Detailed shipping instructions will be included as an attachment to your acceptance email.

CPN is not responsible for any damages on delivery or return of artwork.


A 40% commission will be charged on all work sold.

All work must be for sale. No POR, no NFS.

Return of Work

Unsold exhibited work will be return shipped FLAT after October 19, 2019. (1 year from opening of the exhibition)

China Pastel Network/Ming Gallery of Art will contact the artists for arrangements and shipping fee. All payment must be received before the shipment. No further negotiations.


Li was born in Shanxi province in 1961. He graduated from China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1990 and is currently a deputy director of the Watercolor Art Committee of China Artists Association as well as a professor at the Graduate School of Printmaking at Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Li's paintings depict the people of Zeku Tibetan region. His works often focus on the depiction of ordinary people's living conditions which reflects his childhood. "In fact, the perception of Tibetan landscape and an unpretentious contemporary China's landscape are always around me." Li believes, paintings must integrate the sense of innovation and pastel brings more possibilities.


Born in 1951 in Shanghai, China, Du is the Director of Shanghai Artists Association and the vice president of Pastel Committee of Shanghai Artists Association. An award-winning artist in China and having his works collected by National Arts Museums and National Galleries, Du is also a dedicated art teacher. He paints from everyday life in a realistic fashion without any intentional pursuit on a specific style. Du believes in his own creation process which reflects a deliberate and comprehensive quality. Du's work appears in various publications. A collection of his pastel work was published as Contemporary Chinese Painter: Du Guohao.


Shi is a recognized artist for his excellence in pastel and watercolor. A Shanxi native born in 1960, Shi is the head of Watercolor Department of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. Shi is easygoing and humble, and has devoted his life to teaching arts. His works were accepted into multiple national juried shows and won numerous top awards. Shi's acclaimed works are included in major pastel exhibitions across China. He has published a few art books and was featured in several international magazines. Many of Shi's art students have also won awards in national competitions and thus, escalating his own teaching caliber.


Hang was born in 1931 in Shanghai, China. Hang graduated from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. Hang was the former deputy director of the Chinese Artists Association Watercolor Art Committee. One of his pastel painting was collected by Chinese Olympic Committee. As an international award-winning artist, the Suzhou government has dedicated a pastel museum in his name. Hang has worked as a dedicated art teacher for 60 years and devoted his life to promoting pastel art. Hang is considered a leading national art figure, and exhibits regularly in China and abroad. His works in both watercolor and pastel are collected by National level museums and galleries all over China.
