Neither the PSST nor San Jacinto College, their officers or members, will be responsible for loss or damage to pastels, however caused.

Entering this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to all rules and conditions as set forth in the show prospectus.

Work Eligible

The show is open to all PSST members. Join PSST with a membership fee of $35 Adults (special student rate of $10)(see PSST website).

The main purpose of this show is to focus on sales and promoting the art of pastels.

ELIGIBLE ORIGINAL ARTWORK:

  • Artwork by the artist from life, photographic image or a combination of both.
  • Soft and/or hard pastel paintings on any surface.
  • Paintings that are predominantly pastel (>80% coverage on the final surface).
  • Paintings up to 108 square inches in total painting area (actual painting size). Example: 10" x 10" or 9" x 12".
  • Paintings which include a mat up to 108 square inches (not including the frame).
  • Paintings with frames 11" x 14" or smaller (on their outer edge)with molding under 2 inches wide.
  • Up to five entries per artist.
  • Ready to hang art which is firmly framed (in a black frame) with screw eyes or D rings and strong wire only.


UNACCEPTABLE ARTWORK:

  • Any painting incorporating oil pastel.
  • Artwork copied from another work of art or published photograph.
  • Any artwork which has not been originally drawn or which has been created using a base copy under-neath.
  • PSST reserves the right to exclude from exhibition any artwork deemed offensive, or any art-work that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.

Image Specifications

Please follow the instructions carefully regarding the preparation of your images.
  1. Set your camera for a very high quality image that is not less than 300 dpi. This will be a large file size. Make sure your camera is square with the painting when you shoot, so that the image is not skewed or distorted. Use of a tripod is suggested. You may make adjustments, but only as needed to make the image look more like your painting.
  2. Crop the image. No mat, frame, or extraneous material should appear other than the painting. Now make a copy of this image (SAVE AS). Keep the original for your own records.
  3. See the image preparation tutorials linked on this page.
  4. Resize the copy image with a resolution of 300 dpi to a length of 900 pixels on the longest side.
  5. Save this copy now with a new filename, as follows: Lastname_firstinitial_paintingtitle. You may have to alter the title as it appears in the filename of the image file only. For example if your name is Jane Doe and your painting is titled Early Sunday Morning, the filename you would give to the digital image is: Doe_J_EarlySundayMorning.jpg. But during the entry process, you would type in the actual Title of the painting as Early Sunday Morning when asked for the Title, Price, Size, etc.
  6. Save the image as a high quality jpg. (Use the "Save As" function to select jpg and the highest quality.) The image title will now end with .jpg For example: Doe_J_EarlySundayMorning.jpg
  7. Images not meeting the requirements may be disqualified. If your software does not give you the necessary options to prepare your images as specified, consider buying Adobe Photoshop Elements (under $100) or get someone who has the proper software to help you.

Filename Instructions

Name your image files BEFORE you start the entry process!

The Title of each painting you submit appears in two places:

(1) you type in the title of the painting in the space provided for the information about the piece; this will be just as you would wish the title to appear in the show catalog (e.g. My Uncle's Lonely Road), and

(2) the title appears also as part of the filename you give to the digital image you will upload, and for this purpose you should remove any spaces, quotation marks, etc. (e.g. MyUnclesLonelyRoad)

Use the following protocol for giving your image file a name for submission: Start with your last name, followed by an underscore, followed by your first initial, followed by another underscore, then the title of the image without spaces, then make sure it has the extension ".jpg".

For example: Carson_R_SilentSpring.jpg.

Shorten long titles in the filename, please, and remove all spaces and quotation marks.

Fee Structure

$30 for current PSST members for up to 5 images. For Student members, $6 for 1 image. Payment will be made through Show Submit by credit/debit card. No refund of entry fees.

Incomplete entries will be disqualified.

Accepted Work: Notification, Receiving, Shipping

NOTIFICATION of acceptance will be made by an email through Show Submit (jbaker@showsubmit.com) in the week of October 1, 2017. Please be sure that email address is accepted into your Inbox (add to Safe Senders List).

ACCEPTED WORK: Accepted artists will receive detailed information about hand delivery, shipping and handling, and exhibition labels. A handling fee of $40.00 minimum per container will be charged for shipped work.



Sales

PSST will retain ten (10%) percent commission on total sales during or as a result of the exhibit. The monies collected will be donated to the nominated charity.

Artists are responsible for paying state sales tax.

Removal of Work

WORK must be picked up December 15, noon - 5:00 p.m..
